Is it possible to receive genius as a gift?

Chad Melton is graduating from art academy and fears only one thing: remaining a mediocre artist, like thousands of others. One day, he learns that Bethlem, one of London's oldest psychiatric hospitals, has been housing a patient for forty years who has painted hundreds of paintings—excellent, yet at the same time monstrous and even dangerous to ordinary people.

Chad becomes determined to enter the impenetrable Bethlem to see the enigmatic artist's works and learn to paint like him. But the canvases that hold the secret of genius also conceal something terrifying, something Chad can't even suspect. And for the opportunity to achieve the greatest mastery, will they demand more than he can offer?
