This collection of stories by German submariners, published in Russian for the first time, was compiled by Werner von Langsdorff between the two world wars and immediately became a notable event in military memoirism. The events of the collection cover the time period between the first combat missions of technically very imperfect submarines in 1914 and the surrender of the German fleet to the Allies at the end of 1918. The entire theater of submarine warfare is described - from the Atlantic and the Mediterranean to the Baltic and polar latitudes. Along with memoirs of submariners who left their personal memoirs in the postwar years (Otto Herzing, Walter Forstmann, Hans Rose, Karl Dönitz), the collection includes stories of such legendary aces as Lothar von Arno de la Perrière, Otto Weddigen, due to various, sometimes tragic reasons of their books have not written. There are also numerous testimonies of members of their teams, which have not been published anywhere else. This makes this book a unique edition and a source of citation for most researchers of the history of the First World War. For a wide range of readers.
