The spring and summer of 1942 were marked for the Red Army by a series of disasters in the Crimea, near Kharkov, on the central section of the front. In this tragic list the feat of the 2nd Shock Army, which at the cost of incredible efforts did everything possible to break the blockade of Leningrad, stands out for the duration and fierceness of the confrontation, the incredible persistence of the Soviet troops, who found themselves surrounded, and a desperate attempt to break out of the "cauldron" through the Valley of Death near Myasnoe Bor. The feat of hundreds of thousands of soldiers and commanders of the Red Army, their steadfastness and sacrifice are worthy that we keep the memory of them sacred. This book was created by the author's team consisting of A.P. Statsenko, D.V. Golubev, N.A. Smirnov, D.B. Khazanov, A.V. Isaev, B.K. Irincheev, A.V. Volkov under the general guidance of A.V. Drabkin within the framework of the project of the "Tavolga" Foundation "The feat of the 2nd Shock Army", realized with the support of the State Company "Avtodor". Relying on Soviet and German archival documents, the authors reconstructed the course of combat operations in the Luban offensive operation and made detailed maps. This work covers not only the ground battle, but also the air battle, as well as the actions of partisans, the tragedy of civilians and ideological confrontation. To date, it is the most comprehensive and multifaceted study of a single operation.
