"This year, the festival received over two thousand submissions from both established authors and those writing fiction for the first time. Most of these are bright, warm stories about love, friendship, and relationships with children or parents. Several poignant stories about old age—though they deal with the inevitable, still evoke hope and kindness between the lines. It's gratifying to see so many funny stories, truly funny, that is, laugh out loud. And, finally, the most valuable thing is the beautiful language our authors use: rich, inventive, vibrant, and very familiar—in other words, sunny, like the entire collection, which we named after the symbol of the sun. I'm sure many will read these stories aloud to their friends."
