Apikuni — Far White Cape — this is the name given by the Blackfoot Indians to the writer James Willard Schultz (1859-1947), who lived among them for a long time, traded with them, studied their history, beliefs and customs, and was married to a girl from the Piegan tribe. Schultz's books open a window for readers into the world of the Indians of the Old West, the world of hunters, warriors, travelers, medicine men, the world of pristine nature — the World of Apikuni. The latest volume of Schultz's works includes works published in Russian for the first time. Among them are a cycle of the author's early stories, never previously published under one cover and telling of the adventures of a young fur trader among the Indian tribes of the Upper Missouri; a story about the journey of young hunters into the unknown wilds of the Rocky Mountains, as well as the history of dramatic events associated with the skin of a sacred otter and the campaign of the Blackfeet to the lands of the Far South in the mid-19th century. The book is supplemented with documentary appendices.
