At the center of the narrative of this sometimes shocking, sharp and painful book is a Woman. The heroine, a parachutist and balloon pilot in her youth, after experiencing a personal tragedy, is forced to engage in a completely different business in another country, one could say, in the looking glass: she is a cosmetologist, lives and works in New York.
A whole string of strange characters passes before her eyes, for, by the nature of her current profession, the heroine encounters fantastic, to date almost ordinary "gender inversions", with disconcerting, and even repulsive pictures of society. And, strangely enough, out of this garland, as the heroine puts it, "cripples" grows a grotesque, tragic, insignificant and high image of modern love.
"This tale, in which there is not a single profane word, should have come out under the 18+, or better 40+ ... - for everything in it is so naked and defenseless, cynical and piercingly intimate that in many scenes the paint of shame floods the face and splashes in the heart - the confused human heart, at all times bravely and stubbornly dreaming of only one thing: love ...". Dina Rubina
