The Treaty of Andrusov in 1667, which ended the 13-year war of 1654-1667, divided Ukraine between the Russian state and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, but did not end the long-lasting civil conflict, which was called "Ruin" in historiography. If on the Left Bank the election of Hetman D.I. Ignatovich Polygreshnyi as Hetman and his signing of the Glukhov Articles in March 1669 led to the establishment of peace and order, on the Right Bank the "Polish" Hetman P.D. Doroshenko in March of the same 1669. swore an oath to the Turkish sultan, which provoked a new round of bloody and destructive struggle in the 1670s for control over the region between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Ottoman Empire and the Russian state. One of the key events involving Russian troops was the heroic defense of Chigirin from the Turkish-Tatar army in 1677, to which this book is dedicated. Based on a large number of domestic and foreign sources, including previously unpublished archival documents of the Razryadniy Prikaz, the authors reconstruct the campaign of 1677, including the course of the siege of Chigirin and the actions of the army of Prince G.G. Romodanovsky in August-September 1677. The work also describes in detail the armed forces of the Russian state and the Ottoman Empire in the 1670s and gives an overview of the struggle for control over the Right Bank in 1672-1676. The book is intended for a wide range of researchers and readers interested in the military history of the Fatherland and the history of Russian-Ukrainian relations in the second half of the 17th century.
