"The English Patient" is a story that has won major book awards. The novel won the Booker Prize in 1992. In 2018, "The English Patient" was awarded a special Golden Booker Prize, which was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Booker Prize. It is awarded based on a vote of readers who thought the book was the best novel from the Booker list in 50 years. The book was adapted for a 1996 film adaptation by director Anthony Minghella. The movie won nine Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
He met her when she traveled to North Africa with her husband. He fell in love with her when she quoted Herodotus while sitting around a campfire on a southern night. He lost her when she became everything in his life. Now all that's left of him is a frail body lying in a hospital bed in a ruined Italian villa. Nurse Hana volunteers to care for her "English patient". She sees in him a familiar life that was taken away by World War II. His condition is deteriorating, his memory is weakening, slipping away like sand through his fingers. But he smiles, for every day he grows closer to his Catherine.
