"The English Patient" is a story that has won major book awards. The novel won the Booker Prize in 1992. It is awarded based on a vote of readers who thought the book was the best novel from the Booker list in 50 years. The book was adapted for a 1996 film adaptation by director Anthony Minghella. The movie won nine Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
