A “lamp” story in the spirit of Soviet magical realism about the search for and acquisition of a Real Artist, despite the fact that the demonic chancellery is against.

Vladimir Danilov, a demon on the contract, works as a viola player in the Bolshoi Theatre. He likes his earthly life: music classes, gatherings with friends and other bustle of Moscow. He even met the girl of his dreams, Natasha. But one circumstance disturbs him - the demonic court appointed him the time "H". In anticipation of his fate, Danilov is forced to look after the Lyceum comrade Carmadon, who has turned into a huge blue bull, run at the orders of his ex-wife Claudius and see how he increasingly turns into a man.

The Altist Danilov opens the cycle of Ostankino Stories by Vladimir Orlov (1936-2014) and is one of the brightest examples of Soviet magical realism. Subtle satire hides the eternal questions of Russian literature about the fate of the Creator, the struggle between good and evil and the search for the true self in this complex world.

The series “Ostankino Stories” includes the novels “The Altist Danilov” (1980), “The Pharmacy” (1988) and “Shevrikuk, or Love of a Ghost” (1993).
