"Building a New House!" - is the sixth book in the popular "Story in Pictures" wimmelbook series by German artists Doro Göbel and Peter Knorr.
It tells how one day in an unsightly part of the city on the place of an old garage and a dilapidated supermarket building begins construction of a new apartment building. Workers pour the foundation, gradually erect walls, mount scaffolding, put the roof, carry out finishing work.
The construction process and the equipment involved in it are captured with all authenticity. You can see how the crane is installed, how the foundation is poured with a concrete mixer, how the excavator digs trenches for cables and sewers, how the scaffolding is mounted, the roof is laid and much, much more. The construction site is not without incidents: for example, Erwin the excavator finds a treasure trove of gold coins in the ground, after which a whole team of archaeologists arrives at the construction site. And at the rafter festival, which is traditionally organized by the builders, reaching the highest point of the building, sausages burn, and the firemen, who mistook the puffs of smoke for a fire, urgently come to the construction site with the whole team. And finally, exactly one year later, the beautiful new house is ready! Surprisingly, but with its appearance, the whole neighborhood is transformed. Cozy cafes and useful stores open around, playgrounds and flowerbeds appear - to the delight of newcomers and old residents.
Wimmelbooks series "History in Pictures" - a real silent movie. Looking at the book without words, children learn to notice details, trace logical connections between events, independently compose a story based on pictures. There are so many story lines in the book that it is impossible to follow them all at once. They intertwine, intersect, happen simultaneously, as in a real movie - and as in real life!
