Lucius Annaeus Seneca was one of the most famous Roman philosophers, a representative of Stoicism, a writer and tutor of Emperor Nero, who ironically later died at his own command.
Seneca's writings had a tremendous influence on all Christian thinkers of later years. He was so respected that he was even credited with corresponding with the Apostle Paul. This textbook contains fragments of two of Seneca's best works, "On Beneficence" and "Moral Letters to Lucilius". In them, the philosopher discusses friendship, beneficence and virtue, the vicissitudes of fate, the death of man and his eternal dying process on Earth, joy and pleasure, the wisdom of life, self-knowledge, what philosophy is and what it gives to man.
The edition contains illustrations and comments on the texts.
