Alexander Alexandrov was a composer, creator and the first musical director of the Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army, twice Red Banner, Order of the Red Star. Combining in his ensemble the traditions of Russian household, chamber, opera, church and soldier singing, he brought the Russian choral art to the international professional stage. The ensemble's polyphonic male chorus with soloists, mixed orchestra consisting of symphonic and folk instruments, and ballet are recognized and remain among the best in the world. During its existence, the Alexandrov Ensemble has toured to more than 70 countries. A number of military musical and choreographic ensembles have been created and are working on its model in Russia and abroad.
