Vasily Vasilyevich Vereshchagin (1842-1904) was a Russian painter and writer, one of the most renowned battle artists, whose works received national acclaim. He played a role in the history of battle painting equal to that of Leo Tolstoy in the history of battle fiction. However, the scope of Vasily Vasilyevich's work was much broader than his paintings – he is also known as a talented writer, who left behind vivid memoirs, historical studies, and sketches of everyday life. Vereshchagin wrote about the realities of war firsthand, having personally experienced the difficult battlefield with the Russian army: he distinguished himself in the military field near Samarkand, witnessed the third assault on Plevna, crossed the Balkans with General Skobelev's detachment, and took part in the final battle for Shipka.

This edition includes his book "At War in Asia and Europe," as well as essays and sketches from various years.

The publication is richly illustrated with the author’s works.
