The book analyzes the discussions within the Bolshevik Party that took place in the 1920s and 1930s based on a wide range of sources. For a long time, the academic literature focused on the confrontation at the top of the RCP(b)-AUCP(b), while the situation on the ground and ordinary members of the opposition groups were mentioned sporadically. This approach did not allow us to answer a number of complex questions. Why was the Central Committee of the RCP(b)-AUCP(b) so concerned about the growing number of discussions and the involvement of ordinary party members and candidates and non-party members in the discussions? For what reasons did the opposition leaders fail to gain mass support from the population? Can we talk about the construction of the image of the opposition by supporters of the Central Committee of the RCP(b)-AUCP(b), or did the authorities really understand from the very beginning who they were fighting against? Finally, was it a united opposition movement, or was it something else? The reader will find answers to these and many other questions in this monograph. The book is intended for historians, sociologists, political scientists and anyone interested in the history of the USSR in the 1920s–1930s, the evolution of the Soviet political system and socio-political movements.
