When talking about the Crusaders, the first thing that comes to mind is, of course, the campaigns of the Western European army in Palestine, occasionally the Albigensian Crusade, sometimes the failure of the knights-dogs on Lake Peipus, etc. But the Swedes are almost never mentioned. Meanwhile, for almost two hundred years, starting from the middle of the 12th century, the confrontation between Rus' and Sweden continued in the Baltic, and on the part of the Swedes, encouraged by the bulls of the Roman popes, these were real crusades. Their appetites were great, and their goal was to cut Rus' off from the Baltic Sea and take over the trade routes, although, of course, they spoke out loud about converting pagans to the true (that is, Catholic) faith, which also meant Orthodox Russians. And who knows how events would have turned out if the Russian army had not won the battle, after which the Novgorod prince Alexander Yaroslavich was forever named Nevsky.
