The frenzied success that fell on Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov after the publication of "The Twelve Chairs" (1928), prompted the co-authors to "resurrect" their hero, the irrepressible and charming swindler Ostap Bender, and take up the creation of the novel "The Golden Calf" (1931). Dilogy, which entered the golden fund of domestic literature of the twentieth century and withstood hundreds of reprints, is very rarely published accompanied by magnificent illustrations created by Kukryniksy. This edition gives readers the opportunity to get acquainted with this work by Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiry Krylov and Nikolai Sokolov, better known by their sonorous collective pseudonym. Outstanding caricaturists, classics of book illustration, managed not only to convey the atmosphere of the 1920s: their creative style was incredibly consonant with the sparkling satire of Ilf and Petrov.
