Russian Spiritualism was a notable and unique religious movement at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Its adherents thought of themselves as the scientific vanguard, seeking to look where academic science could not or dared not look yet. They set themselves a goal that science had given up on: to prove that there is a connection between the earthly and spiritual worlds.

Razdyakonova's book explores the history of Russian spiritualism, placing it in a global context and at the same time considering the movement as a holistic religious phenomenon of domestic culture of the second half of the XIX - early XX century. The author introduces historical materials that allow to get an idea of everyday spiritualist practices, relations between different groups and the diversity of spiritualist doctrines. Vladislav Razdyakonov is a Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of History of Religions at the Center for the Study of Religions of the Russian State University for the Study of Religions.
