Vsevolod Anisimovich Kochetov (1912–1973) was a Soviet writer, journalist, and war correspondent. He headed the Leningrad branch of the Writers' Union and served as editor-in-chief of the Literaturnaya Gazeta and the magazine Oktyabr. His first major literary success came with the publication of his novel The Zhurbins (1952), which chronicles the life of a family of hereditary shipbuilders over three generations. The book was translated into many languages and reprinted numerous times. Based on The Zhurbins, I. Kheifits directed the film The Big Family, which won an award at the 8th Cannes Film Festival. The novel "The Yershov Brothers" (1958) also gained wide recognition as one of the best family novels and entered the golden fund of Soviet classics along with such large-scale works as "Brothers and Sisters" by F. Abramov, "Eternal Call" by A. Ivanov, "The Strogoffs" by G. Markov, and "Gloomy River" by V. Shishkov.
