In the 15th century, the famous chronicler Leontiy Makhera called the island of Cyprus "the island of saints" in his "Cyprus Chronicles" - so great is the number of saints and martyrs venerated by the Church. The natives of the island, famous for their works both in Cyprus and in other countries, were: Apostle Barnabas, the founder and patron of the Church of Cyprus, the holy apostles Mark and Andrew the First-Called, the great martyr George the Victorious, Saint Spyridon of Trimythous, Saint Irene, the daughter of the saint, and many other saints and ascetics of piety. According to legend, the Mother of God, on her way to the Holy Mount Athos, stayed in Cyprus with Saint Lazarus, who was then the first bishop of Kition - modern Larnaca. We dedicate this collection to the story of the lives of the saints and their exploits.
