Kate Atkinson got into the big leagues of modern literature at her first attempt: her debut novel "The Museum of My Secrets" won the prestigious Whitbread Prize, beating Salman Rushdie's "The Moor's Parting Sigh" Salman Rushdie, and a series of novels about private detective Jackson Brodie, which has managed to love and Russian readers ("Crimes of the Past", "Turn for the better", "Do I wait for good news?", "At dawn, with a dog together"), Stephen King dubbed "the main detective project of the decade. The total circulation of the cycle exceeded three million copies, and on the basis of his first books, the BBC television channel released a series "Crimes of the Past" with Jackson Isaacs in the title role.
In the novel "Do I Expect Good News?" action takes place not in the university Cambridge and not among the crowds of tourists who came to the Edinburgh Festival, although the Scottish capital again provides a picturesque backdrop to the events. And the impetus for them was a nightmarish crime of thirty years ago, which shook the quiet Devonshire and the whole of England; and now the convicted murderer, having served his time, goes free. Meanwhile, Dr. Trapper goes missing with a small child - but her disappearance seems to have alarmed only her sheepdog, Sadie, and her sixteen-year-old babysitter, Reggie. And DCI Louise Monroe is preoccupied with another missing person - not yet knowing that Jackson Brodie is about to burst into her life again, and at full speed (literally).
