The book "Gendarmerie Fates" consists of biographical articles dedicated to famous historical figures, controversial, but who left a significant mark on the history of Russian special services. Alexander Benkendorf, Sergei Zubatov and Vladimir Dzhunkovsky... People of their time, who understood their role in the defense of the Fatherland in their own way. They are very different from each other, as different as the times in which they lived and worked. But they were united by one thing - loyalty to the Motherland, a high sense of patriotism and civic consciousness.
The author - a former general of the special services - did not try to conduct historical research. As a contemplator, he impartially analyzes both the life and work of the heroes in the context of time, as a professional he tries to stretch a thread of logic between different times and conditions in which his predecessors worked, "with a gendarme's gaze" and without politicization to look at historical events of different eras.
Of particular interest in the book are the documents for understanding the super-task that the leaders of the gendarmerie and the security department set for themselves, defending the Motherland and the throne, as well as the psychology and political views of their opponents.
