The epic novel in two parts of the famous Soviet and Russian writer Yuri Rythau (1930-2008) tells the story of the fate of the Canadian sailor John McLennan, a former assistant captain of a merchant ship buried in the ice of the Bering Strait in 1911. He found a second homeland in Chukotka and among the small people lost in the snows found true friends: Chukchi, Eskimos, Russians, with whom he is involved in the construction of a new life. He is elected chairman of the Native Council of the village of Enmyn, and he writes a petition to the Chairman of the CEC V.I. Lenin on granting him Soviet citizenship. This work is imbued with the spirit of friendship of peoples, anti-racist and directed against any manifestation of national exceptionalism.
