"You are the only being with free will! How do you like that?" - These lines were read by Dwayne Hoover in a novel by the science fiction writer Kilgore Trout, a cross-cutting character in Vonnegut's works who is a sort of alter ego of the writer. Hoover decided that the question was addressed to him (in fact, the question was intended for anyone who opened the book) and that he was the only person on the planet with free will, only he could think and feel, and all the other people around him were only willless and soulless robots. This thought almost deprived the hero of his sanity. Dwayne Hoover, a car salesman with no special intelligence, unexpectedly turns out to be a wonderful conduit for Kilgore Trout's ideas.
In this amazing philosophical book, mocking the modern mad world, the absurdity and cruelty of human misdeeds, merge together fantasy and reality, madness and logic, author and hero, real and false, truth and fiction.
"Breakfast for Champions" - one of the main books of Vonnegut, which the writer gave himself for his fiftieth birthday. In 1999, the novel was screened, the role of Duane Hoover was played by Bruce Willis.
