Mayla is used to using magic to solve any problem. One spell and she's guaranteed an A on a test. It's just a shame that truly difficult challenges can't be overcome with magic. She can't dispel the spell of a powerful mage whom Mayla (really, completely by accident!) turned into a plastic Buddha figurine. It seems magic can't always be relied upon. Who else could she rely on? Maybe her friends?

The "Mayla the Magician" series captivates you from the very first page. An original plot, humor, and a likeable heroine who never gets bored. The book literally sparkles with magic, but it also conveys an interesting idea: magic isn't the solution to every problem. You can build a palace with it, but it will collapse as soon as the spell wears off. Magic makes life easier, but it shouldn't be overused.
