This is perhaps one of the most mysterious, most complex in its fate and content monuments of Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Its sources, the degree of fictionalization, and thus its value as a historical source are unclear. It is difficult to say anything definite about the author's origin. It is not quite clear how he was captured by the Turks. In addition, one of the most important sources for Constantine's account of the Turkish Empire is his own memoirs. Nevertheless, this is the first Serbian historical work that is not connected to the medieval tradition. It is also one of the first and most thorough works on the history of Turkey, its state, financial and military organization. The work combines the features of a historical work, a memoir, and a journalistic work, while at the same time reflecting Serbian and Turkish epic and folklore.
