"Notes from the House of the Dead" was written by F. M. Dostoevsky based on his memoirs about his imprisonment in the Omsk prison in 1850-1854. The death sentence for participation in a revolutionary circle, which was replaced at the last moment by hard labor, being in chains with criminals, and close acquaintance with the torments and sufferings of people, made a revolution in the soul of the writer, which was reflected in all his work. The work was highly appreciated by contemporaries of F. M. Dostoevsky and is still read with unflagging interest. The writer's deep thoughts, descriptions of penal life, touching stories about human destinies still easily find their way to the hearts of readers.
