The book “The World Lamp” was written by Metropolitan Veniamin (Fedchenkov) in 1933 and is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the death of St. Seraphim of Sarov.
Being an experienced spiritual writer, Vladyka turned with special love to hagiographic literature, stories about the holy saints of God, their exploits and miracles. So, in 1930-1931 in Paris and Vienna, Metropolitan Benjamin began work on a manuscript entitled “From the Other World,” which tells about events incomprehensible to the human mind, about the miracles and signs of God. A significant place in this work was dedicated to the holy elder Seraphim of Sarov. The book “The World Lamp” includes chapters from the above-mentioned manuscript, as well as the biography of the monk, comprehended and revised by the author, compiled by the monks Sergius, George and Joasaph, N.V. Elagin, L.I. Denisov. In addition, the memoirs of N.A. are given. Motovilov, N. Aksakova, records of the holy martyr Seraphim (Chichagov) and S.A. Nilus. The work of Metropolitan Benjamin contains the author’s experience of a detailed description and interpretation of the spiritual path of the holy elder Seraphim and is rightfully considered one of the best biographies of the reverend Sarov wonderworker.
