Sergei Parkhomenko was a political reporter and columnist in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the creator and editor-in-chief of the legendary magazine Itogi, then a book publisher, editor-in-chief of Vokrug Sveta and host of the weekly program The Essence of Events on Ekho Moskvy radio.
But he has one special passion: in the early two-thousandths he also became known as a popular blogger nicknamed "Cook", and recently started a podcast about gastronomic history called "The Essence of Food". For two decades, he has written essays in which he tells stories of his own encounters and travels, describing observations, impressions, and moods brought back from faraway lands - and published them in various magazines under the guise of gastronomic columns. Exactly under the guise: each essay contains a description of some wonderful food, there is even a clear and precise recipe, and to it - a carefully selected list of ingredients, so that anyone can even cook this food. But in fact these essays are about the lives of people around us, about the questions people ask each other while they live, and about the answers that life offers them sometimes quite unexpectedly.
