During World War II, the German army had the most developed system of self-propelled artillery units, designed to solve the vast majority of tasks on the battlefield. However, the specifics of the industry of the Third Reich, combined with the constant shortage of weapons among the Nazis, gave birth to a real "zoo" of self-propelled guns in the Wehrmacht. In some cases, these were not the famous "Stugi", "Marders", "Hetzer" and "Nashorn", but improvised and even home-made self-propelled guns created on the basis of numerous models of obsolete or captured chassis and artillery systems.
A new book by a famous historian of military equipment describes all the self-propelled artillery units of the armed forces of Nazi Germany from 1939 to 1945 - assault guns, self-propelled field artillery, self-propelled anti-tank artillery, self-propelled infantry guns and anti-aircraft self-propelled units. The author tells not only about the design and power of the Wehrmacht self-propelled guns, but also about the tactics of their combat use.
The publication is illustrated with a large number of photographs.
