Clifford Donald Simak is one of the "godchildren" of the famous John Campbell, editor of Astounding Science Fiction, where many stars of the "golden age of science fiction" were lit. Early in his literary career, Simak wrote "hard" science fiction and adventure works, as well as westerns, but then he pushed the boundaries of the NF genre and created his own style, which critics called soft, humanistic and even pastoral, comparing Simak's prose to that of Ray Bradbury. His world fame was brought to him by the novel in short stories "The City" (the title story is included in this collection). In fifty-five years, Saimak wrote about thirty novels and more than a hundred and twenty novels and short stories. He was awarded the Hugo, Nebula, Locus, and other prizes. He has been honored with the title of Grandmaster of the Nebula Awards. This book is the first volume of the complete collection of the Master's works in the small genre. Some of the works included in the collection have been translated for the first time, and some are being published in new translations.
