This book is an adaptation of the adventure novel The Headless Horseman by the English writer Thomas Mine Reid (1818-1883). The novel takes place in Texas during the conquest of the Wild West. A mysterious murder occurs on the prairie. Suspicion of the murder falls on the young Mustanger Maurice Gerald, to whom the planter's daughter, the beautiful Louise, gave her heart. The Mustanger's friend, the brave hunter Zeb Stump, finds the main witness of the crime... After each chapter, commentary and translation of difficult words and expressions are given, as well as exercises aimed at checking understanding of the text, practicing vocabulary and grammar rules, and developing oral speech. New words are included in the dictionary, which is placed at the end of the book.
