Patrikeyev is assisted by the horse thief Krasavchik, the thief Fedka Byk, the policeman Grishchenko, who have broken with their criminal past, and Volodya's high school friend, Petya Kitaev, who has joined the criminal investigation department.
The police officers must confront not only the criminals but also their accomplices in the authorities. Dangerous adventures await the heroes, during which detective Patrikeev will not only expose the villains but also find love.
The novel is based on real events from the biography of the renowned Soviet writer Alexander Kozachinsky and is a direct continuation of the plot of his famous, frequently filmed novella "The Green Van."
