Anatole France (1844–1924) was a French writer, literary critic, and public figure. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1921 for "brilliant literary achievements marked by refinement of style, profoundly wrought humanism, and a truly Gallic temperament."
"The Revolt of the Angels" is a fantasy novel published in 1914. The plot revolves around the adventures of both ordinary citizens of early 20th-century Paris and angels plotting a revolution in heaven. The author uses the angels' adventures in Paris during the Third Republic to deliver a harsh social critique, directed primarily against the church and militarism. In this novel, the writer anticipated the onset of great social upheavals and timed the apocalyptic drama in heaven to a seemingly ordinary earthly year.
