"Resurrection" is the last novel by Leo Tolstoy, it reflects the spiritual and creative quests of the writer's last years. Begun in 1889, the novel was finished and published only 10 years later, in 1899. Many scenes and even chapters were banned from publication in the Russian press. "Resurrection" was among those works by Tolstoy for which he was excommunicated from the church. Today, the novel is read differently. The tragic story of the spiritual rebirth of Prince Nekhlyudov and the convict Katyusha Maslova has become one of the greatest masterpieces of world literature of the 19th century. This edition reproduces the illustrations to the novel by artist Leonid Osipovich Pasternak (1862-1945). In 1898, L. N. Tolstoy himself approached him with a proposal to create this cycle. L. O. Pasternak's illustrations were highly appreciated by the writer, and in 1900 they were awarded a medal at the World Exhibition in Paris. The book also included detailed comments by Doctor of Philological Sciences N. G. Mikhnovets.
