Edogawa Rampo (real name Taro Hirai) is the founder of the detective genre in Japanese literature of the XX century, who transferred the best techniques of the classics of this genre (Edgar Poe, Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie) to the national soil. Like Edgar Poe, thanks to whom the literary pseudonym of the writer appeared, Edogawa Rampo has works where there is a place for the irrational and terrible. These are the stories "Magic Charms of the Moon", "The Armchair Man" and others.
The protagonist of many of the author's works, detective Kogoro Akechi, so defined the main method that helps him in his work: "To solve the crime, you do not need puzzling riddles and clever machines ... you need to be able to come up with a question". This seemingly simple method has made many literary sleuths famous along with their creators, and we can safely add Kogoro Akechi and Edogawa Rampo to the list.
