Composition "War and the Bible" (1932) St. Nicholas of Serbia (Velimirovich), written between the two World Wars, is dedicated to the attitude of Christianity towards the war. Saint Nicholas says that God decides the outcome of every war and that all ancient and modern wars can be understood and explained only in the light of the Bible. Reflecting on the causes of wars in general, the author writes: "... the war of man against man is the fruit of the war of man with God." St. Nicholas comes to the conclusion that the defeat in the war is the result of sin and the retreat of the people, rulers and military leaders from God, while the piety and good morality of all of the above lead to victories and peace. This essay by St. Nicholas (Velimirovich) will be useful for the widest range of Orthodox readers.
