This book is devoted to the interaction between state policy and military strategy during the so-called "wars of German unification" of 1864-1871. The military instrument is considered primarily as a means of achieving a political goal, its role in Prussian politics of the 1860s and the peculiarities of its application are studied. At the same time, it is emphasized that the military elite was an independent player that was not limited in planning and carrying out operations to the execution of the will of politicians. This could not but lead to certain frictions in the Prussian leadership, but in the end Berlin managed to develop a fairly successful scheme of interaction between politics and strategy, thanks to which the political goal was achieved - the unification of Germany around Prussia became a reality.
