The year is 1470. King Edward of York is exiled from England. Queen Elizabeth and her children are trembling with fear for their lives in Westminster Abbey. The Lancasters have won the crown, but the Yorks have not given up the fight. Edward makes a desperate attempt to regain the throne - he enters into an alliance with the ruler of Burgundy, Charles the Bold, and receives a small mercenary army and ships under his command. At the mouth of the Humber River there is a town called Ravenspur, which means "crow's spur". Seventy years ago, another pretender to the English throne, Henry Bolingbroke, the future founder of the Lancaster dynasty, landed there. Edward believes that he will be able to repeat the success of his predecessor if he begins his campaign from the same place. There is an important reason for this belief: Ravenspur is located on the edge of Yorkshire, his ancestral county. Can there be any doubt that all the Yorkshire towns will voluntarily open their gates to their monarch?
