Helmut Schiebel, a company commander in the 13th Panzer Division of the Wehrmacht, describes the path he took along the roads of World War II.

This is a story about heavy fighting on the Eastern Front, about the harsh everyday life of soldiers, about how front-line soldiers fought and died.

His diary is the testimony of a soldier who experienced the horrors of a terrible war, but did not lose his human dignity and ability to think: he tries to be objective in his assessments, paying tribute to courage and nobility, regardless of who shows them: a Soviet soldier or a Wehrmacht soldier.

Confidence in victory replaces the understanding of the impending catastrophe, at the end of the story he says with bitterness: “They stole the years of our youth from us. It's all over with us. Soon everything will collapse, and the Third Reich will never exist.”
