It seems the world is once again on the brink of war—a global, merciless war, the most destructive in human history, given the enormous thermonuclear potential of the major world powers. There will be no victors on this battlefield...

And here's what St. Nicholas of Serbia (Velimirovich) (1880-1956), author of the book "War and the Bible," tells us:
1) the causes of the future war lie in the apostasy from God and the idolatry of Christian peoples and their leaders;
2) these causes are identical to the causes of the wars that Israel, once the salt and light of the world, suffered and perished;
3) these causes must be quickly eradicated through repentance and a return to God, for otherwise, a series of future wars will undoubtedly lead to the destruction of all Christian peoples—but not Christianity itself.

The saint drew these conclusions from his study of the Bible, for no other book in the world describes so many wars and explains their causes. The Bible collects and analyzes the results of vast human experience—let us add: the sad human experience of the constant falling away from God.

We need to know and understand the underlying causes and mechanisms of wars and conflicts on the planet precisely now, when, in the words of Saint Nicholas, "citizens in the city are rushing to douse their houses with kerosene." And "it matters not at all who first throws a spark into the doused city."
