This book is the first printed work published in Russia after 1917 that examines in detail the evolution of Russian military uniforms in the time of Alexander II. The narrative is structurally divided into a general part, which deals with changes in uniforms that applied to all or a significant part of the troops and servicemen, and chapters devoted to specific changes in the uniforms of different branches of the army (imperial retinue, Guards infantry, army cavalry, etc.). Special chapters describe armament, equipment and horse harness. As an appendix, the rules of wearing different forms of uniforms (ceremonial, festive, ordinary and marching) are given. For convenience, the book is divided into two volumes: the first, which includes the general part, as well as a description of the uniforms of the Guard units, and the second, which describes the uniforms of the army troops, as well as armament, equipment and rules of wearing uniforms, and the second, devoted to the uniforms of the regular Guard and army troops, as well as Alexander II (from 1855 to 1861 inclusive). The book is provided with rich reference and illustrative material from domestic and foreign museums and private collections, much of which is published for the first time.
