In 2008, Russian citizen and businessman Viktor Bout was arrested by U.S. intelligence services as a result of a front operation conducted on three continents and ended in Thailand. Bout was charged with conspiracy against America. During the two years Victor spent in a Thai prison, his fate was decided within the framework of an intense diplomatic struggle between Russia and the United States. After Bout's extradition to New York in 2010, he was kept in solitary confinement, subjected to psychological torture, induced to cooperate with U.S. intelligence services and demanded dirt on Russian politicians. Victor's refusal to betray his comrades and his homeland resulted in a sentence of 25 years in prison, which he is still serving in the United States. The newly analyzed facts of the true reasons for the US hunt for Victor Bout, interviews with him, his relatives and acquaintances, unique photos from the family archive, Victor's letters from prison and fragments of his wife Alla's diaries formed the basis of the journalistic investigation of this high-profile case, which became a major international scandal.
