The author of this story Kenneth Graham (1859 - 1932), before becoming a world-famous writer, published several essays, memoirs of childhood and the story "The Lying Dragon", on which in 1941 the studio "Disney" was put an animated film. The story "The Wind in the Willows" C. Graham began writing for his young son, a sickly, stubborn, disobedient child. It was he who became the prototype of Mr. Toad - unbalanced, exalted Toad, always involving his friends, and himself too, in dangerous adventures. Other main characters of the story - Badger, Mole and Uncle Rat - a water rat - are typical Englishmen: they love their home, real English comfort, a measured way of life. At the same time, often, as if against their will, are drawn into various troubles, from which they invariably come out victorious. The story is republished in different countries for almost 120 years, translated into many languages of the world. It has been translated into Russian by several translators, and this edition presents a translation by children's writer and translator Irina Tokmakova. For middle school age.
