The second half of 1915 was the most difficult time for Russia during the entire period of the First World War. The passivity of the Entente allies allowed the Austro-German command to concentrate its main forces on the Eastern (Russian) Front, which, together with insufficient combat support, put the Russian troops in an extremely difficult situation. With battles they had to leave the territory of Poland and part of the Baltics. But the Russian command managed to avoid strategic encirclement and stabilize the front line. In bloody defensive battles, the enemy suffered huge losses, but never managed to take Russia out of the war.
About all this and first of all about the courage of Russian soldiers and officers is told in the book of Doctor of Historical Sciences AV Oleinikov.
