The book is the 22nd volume in a series devoted to the White Movement in Russia, and examines the fighting of the White troops during the Great Siberian Ice Campaign, which is one of the most tragic pages of the history of the Civil War in Siberia. Chronologically, the campaign covers the period from mid-November 1919 (the abandonment of Omsk) to mid-February 1920 (the execution of A.V. Kolchak and the arrival of the Whites in the Chita area). Later events are also touched upon: the displacement of the Whites from Transbaikalia by the fall of 1920, the fate of the Orenburg, Ural and Altai Cossacks, and the events in Vladivostok. Among the authors of the volume are well-known memoirists - Petrov, Sakharov, Meibom, Efimov. Much attention in the book is paid to the history of the death of General V.O. Kappel.
The book is provided with extensive and for the first time published commentaries containing several hundred unknown biographical references about the authors and heroes of the essays.
