In the first part of the book, Rainer Zitelmann, a German historian and sociologist as well as a successful entrepreneur, uses statistics and historical facts to show the invalidity of ten of the most common objections to capitalism: that it leads to hunger and poverty, to growing inequality, to unnecessary consumption and destruction of the environment and climate change, to financial crises and wars, that capitalism only prioritizes profit at the expense of humanity, that monopolies rule, and that democracy is destroyed. The second part describes the most tragic episodes of attempts to build socialism in such countries as the USSR, China and Cambodia. The third part publishes the results of a unique sociological survey commissioned by the author in 21 countries. The purpose of the survey was to find out how people in Europe, Asia, South and North America, and Australia (structured by gender, age, and political views) feel about capitalism and economic freedom. A separate chapter is devoted to the results of this survey in Russia (conducted in February 2022).
