Sarah Beaumont, a realtor selling houses, finds strange records in the mansion to be repaired, in which, in random order, significant events in American history and surnames are listed. Some of them belong to popular historical figures, others to unknown persons. Sarah's inquiring mind demands food, and she heads to the library while also searching for all possible connections and coincidences online. A few days later, in a crowded place, a woman tries to kill a sinister stranger. Sarah realizes that, unwittingly, she has fallen into the center of a conspiracy in which the cost of an individual human life is very low. Unaccustomed to giving up, she decides to attract everyone’s attention, and posts her research and discovered facts online.
Conspiracy Theory and Speculation on Interference in History? Predicted sociology? The vulnerability of modern humanity to the plans of “progressors” who interfere with the natural course of things? The novel, written in 1990 and deserving of the Locus and Prometheus awards, raises the most important questions of the existence of both individual countries and the entire human civilization.
