Louisa May Alcott was an American writer, the author of the celebrated novel "Little Women," which brought her worldwide fame and the love of readers. To this day, the book remains one of the most significant works of American literature.

In her novel "In the Lilac Garden" (1878), Alcott tells the story of a twelve-year-old boy named Ben and his faithful dog Sancho, who escape from a circus and, after many wanderings, find a new home with a close-knit, cheerful family. As in other Alcott books, the young heroes must overcome numerous difficulties, learn patience and forgiveness, and in this they will be aided by true love, friendship, courage, and faith.

This edition features wonderful illustrations by American artist Alice Barber Stevens.
