Nikolai Aleksandrovich Leykin was a famous St. Petersburg writer, humorist, journalist, publisher. One of the most famous works of Leikin is Ours Abroad, a hilarious story about the travels of merchant Nikolai Ivanovich Ivanov and his wife Glafira Semenovna, about funny adventures and all sorts of misunderstandings that happen to heroes in foreign lands. Readers liked the book so much that Leikin wrote several sequels. In this volume, the third and fourth (last) parts of the cycle are printed.
The couple, already experienced travelers, go first to Turkey, and on the way to Istanbul visit the “Slavic lands” and spend several days in Belgrade and Sofia. Then the merchant couple decides to go to the French resort, in Biarritz, and from there to Madrid, the capital of Spain. They are waiting for new acquaintances, meetings, pleasant entertainment - and real trials. They even have to get into the newsreel! Leikin humorously depicts compatriots getting acquainted with foreign history and culture, making many discoveries for themselves, but invariably yearning abroad for Russian tea drinking with a samovar.
