The second volume of the complete short stories by the leader of the New Wave and author of Empire of the Sun, Crash, and High-Rise.

Over a four-decade literary career, J.G. Ballard earned a reputation as one of the most distinguished and original British novelists, but throughout his career, he was also an extremely prolific short story writer. Indeed, many believe that it is in the short form that his talent is most fully revealed. These influential texts have appeared in science fiction magazines and counterculture presses, as well as in separate collections.

Arranged in the order in which they were written and originally published, they often became central ideas or images that were later developed in later novels. These stories offer a unique insight into the mind of one of Britain's greatest writers.

Here we find science fiction pushed to the limits of philosophy, monster-free horror whose primary source of terror is the very nature of consciousness, and prose that offers no answers but compels us to peer into the abyss.

The second volume includes stories written between 1962 and 1969.

The edition includes an introduction by Adam Thirlwell and an interview with James Ballard.
